School Supplies

~School Supplies~

After taking a full month off (July) from thinking about school, I am back in "school mode", attending great classes, workshops and even teaching some.  I have already gotten sucked into sales around town and thought I would share the supply list for the incoming first grade families in case you too are finding sales in the stores.  Please note that this list is for ALL of the first grade classes, though there are a few other items added for Mrs. Tisdall's students.  This is the suggested supply list.  I have put links to items if you don't know what they are or what they look like. All links are to Amazon but please know you can find better deals around town especially in the coming weeks (try the dollar stores too!).

1 box of Crayola Crayons (48 colors is fine)

2 dozen sharpened Ticonderoga #2 Pencils (The reason we like these pencils is because their leads are center which makes them easier to sharpen.  Other brands may have off-centered leads which makes them difficult to sharpen and you end up having to throw them away.  We ask them to be sharpened because sharpening all those pencils takes a lot of time.  First graders go through a ton of pencils! Thank you!)

8 Expo dry-erase markers low odor. (Please try to avoid yellow.  These are for students to use and yellow is harder for me to see their work.)

1 box of tissues

1 (1 inch) three ring binder (MUST be 1 inch for storage purposes). If you are in my class, you may decorate this with your child's name and pictures.  This will be used as a portfolio (in my class) to house their writing and other projects throughout the year. It is sent home to you at the end of the year.

1 spiral notebook (~Does not need to be fancy.)

1 Composition Notebook (~Also does not need to be fancy.  You will be decorating it later so just get the black marble kind~ cheapest.)

**If you are in my class the ONLY things that need to be labeled with your child's name is their binder, composition notebook and three ring binder. All other things go into a "community pot" where all students share.  If you have any questions, please feel free to leave a comment here or email me at lauradoran@wlcsd.org

***I understand that all of these things add up.  If you cannot afford it, I completely understand. I always purchase a few extras for children so they will not go without.  If you are in a position to send in these items, I appreciate it.

**** As a wish list item, if you are shopping and find clear plastic page protectors on sale and would like to donate them to our classroom I would appreciate it. I usually buy big boxes at Costco but with over 25 students and many portfolio pieces, they go quickly.

Thank you and again, please let me know what questions you have!  Enjoy these last few weeks of summer!

Sincerely,

Laura Doran
