Greetings from Room 119! We had a busy week with so much left to squeeze in in these last weeks of school. Of course we made time for our most important work - to spread kindness. We sent love to the family of a former Thoughtful Thursday recipient. Sadly, Mr. Marc (from the fall) passed away so we made a project for his wife, 13 year old daughter and 10 year old son. You can see that project HERE.
A very happy birthday to our friend, Austin. He turned the great eight! Sto Lat!
Reading, reading, reading! We took our iReady test in reading and continue to read The Secret Zoo. If you haven't heard about it, ask us about it! Next week we'll be learning about and exploring fairy tales!
We've been writing personal narratives this week that went along with what we've been learning about "the past" in Social Studies. Mrs. D. didn't take any pictures of us writing but she did snap some pictures of us voting for Room 119's next LLE Leader of the Month. Each month we nominate someone and explain WHY we think they should be chosen.
We had a few different focuses this week in math. We continue to work on fractions and also measured to the nearest half inch. In addition we are learning how to subtract by "borrowing", not as you probably remember it, but by using base ten shorthand to help us visualize the process. It was an easy transition then for most of us to start the trade-first method to subtract.
In social studies we've been looking at where things come from. We split into groups to research and learn about a product and how it was made. Next week we'll be sharing our learning with the rest of the class. We can't wait!
Mrs. Richards has been visiting us this year from the library to share with us some of her favorite books. This was her last visit. We have really enjoyed her time with us this year. Thank you for coming in!
Our Mystery Reader this week was a former Room 119 student who came back to read to her sister (a current Room 119 student). Lily did a great job reading to us and I'd say Gwen really enjoyed it too! Great job!
I hope you are all having a wonderful Memorial Day weekend. For those who may not have heard, I ran my first half marathon this weekend after starting running last October. I didn't die and was even able to smile for a moment at the finish! Thanks for all the encouragement!
