HAVE A GREAT SUMMER!!

Room 119 may be closed for the summer, but that doesn't mean the learning has to stop! Click HERE to get fun ideas on how to keep the summer learning going and don't forget to check on Skyward after June 20th so see report cards!
SEE YOU IN THE FALL!!!!!

Week 39 in Review

Greetings from Room 119! We had a great last week of school and packed in quite a bit of learning in our final days of school! We hope that you had fun following our adventures and Mrs. D. would love if you would take a moment to take a QUICK survey HERE as she begins to look ahead to next year. We have still only had about 13 surveys filled out and with 25 students, she would love to have more.

We enjoyed sharing our research on someone famous from history. Reading biographies was a lot of fun and talking about them and asking our friends what they learned from our reporting was something we all enjoyed!
We split into groups and each focused on a new scholastic magazine that we were interested in. We read it, talked about it and then decide on the most important parts to share with to the rest of our class.
We finished our final end of the year math assessment. We sat and took it however and wherever we felt comfortable. Most of us did very well!
Our last PBIS assembly celebrated LLE learners who show all the PBIS traits. We had two learners from Room 119 recognized. Congratulations!
We even were able to squeeze in a visit rom a Mystery Reader. Special thanks to Sama's mom who came in to read to us and ALL the readers who made time this year to come in and read to us!
Room 119 celebrated becoming third graders with an end of the year party! Special thanks to the moms of Gavin, Madhav and Marcus who put together a fun end of the year party!
Mrs. Doran has been busy writing thank you letters and closing up Room 119! Thank you to all who took a moment to give her a nice note and/or gift! She was overwhelmed by your kindness. She made each of us a journal to remember all the fun we had this year and record new memories!

And finally, a special thank you to Mr. Stearns and Mrs. Kain who are retiring. We will REALLY miss having them here at LLE. They were an amazing part of our family and we wish them all the best in the next chapter of their lives!

If you are getting this blog post via email and no longer wish to get notifications from Room 119, please remember to click "unsubscribe" at the bottom of your email. This blog will remain here should you ever wish to come back and take a walk down memory lane.

HAVE A WONDERFUL SUMMER!!!

Week 38 Review From CAMP PICKLES!

Greetings from Camp Pickles! We had a LOT of fun this week and Mrs. Doran survived despite some of us having difficulty following directions, lots of talking out and overall exhaustion (by the way... did you notice the beautiful FULL moon).

After field day, Mrs. D. and her mom stayed late to help turn Room 119 into a camp site. On Day 1 of camp we voted on a camp name and "Camp Pickles" won! We made some vines to complete the look and it really felt wonderful learning inside in the great outdoors!
On Monday we were excited to get a visit from Mrs. Rachel who was a Thoughtful Thursday recipient back in December. She's doing great after her brain surgeries! She came in to thank us and brought us all popcorn and water bottles for camp! We also got a care package from Uncle Rawn (also a Thoughtful Thursday recipient) with a bunch of great treats! It's amazing these two strangers were so touched by our kindness that they wanted to return kindness. It goes to show and Kindness Matters. It has a ripple effect, so keep it going. You can see this week's Thoughtful Thursday project for a Room 119 mom by clicking HERE.
We had a blast learning about science this week from studying our weather unit (wind speed with pinwheels and bubbles for wind direction) to two visits from scientists! Ask us all the things we learned about!
We also were busy following directions and creating! We made sit-upons, giant mouth fish, frames for a "Camp Pickles" picture, shirts (optional), pinwheels, and necklaces!
Each day we went on a hike! We sang camp songs, enjoyed a walk and each others company! There's no better classroom than the great outdoors! We can sing you songs from our camp journals that came home.
One of the favorites of the week was mail call! Each day we got letters from home and it certainly was a highlight. Thank you to all of you who made sure we had mail and EXTRA special thank you to Gavin's mom who wrote extra letters to make sure we all had a piece of mail to read each day! WOW!
In addition to mail, we also received some special "care packages"! In addition to the two care packages sent from our Thoughtful Thursday recipients, we got treats from Carly's family, Gavin's family and Marcus' family! In addition, Nana Mary (Thoughtful Thursday) sent in some money to go toward camp things. Mrs. D. used some of the money to buy bubbles shaped like popsicles for each of us from Nana Mary! Some of us even sent Mrs. D. some love at mail call which was extra special!
With only three full days next week, we did start our end of the year assessment. It's quite long so we'll work on it next week too. We kind of liked taking tests around the campsite! On Monday our math journals (and other things we've finished) will start coming home.
We ended each day writing to YOU and to others who may have sent us mail! We loved reviewing all the fun things we did and sure hope you liked hearing from us. Thanks for your support this week!

If you have a Facebook account, be sure to check out Mrs. Doran's Class Page. There are MANY more pictures there from the week!
Remember next week is the LAST full week!
We have three full days and two half days. As you know our party is Thursday. This will be low-key but fun. Thank you to our 3 volunteers. Mrs. D. will be sure to take lots of pictures and post them next week on the FINAL blog post of the year.
PLEASE remember to take Mrs. D.'s end-of-year survey and thank you to those who have already taken it. Click HERE if you have not taken it yet. She's only had 5 responses at the time of this post and hopes to get many more.
Have a great week!

Week 37 in Review

Greetings from Room 119! We had such a busy week, but we still got in some serious learning! We also packed in TWO Thoughtful Thursday projects. Click HERE to learn about a young cancer fighter named Cole and HERE to learn about a family missing a tremendous husband, father, teacher and friend.

We had fun for spirit week! We had Teacher Tuesday, World Wednesday, Twin Thursday and crazy sock Friday!
We have been loving reading books we like while Mrs. D. finished up her testing. Our stamina sure grew this year as did our reading fluency, accuracy and comprehension!
We finished up our biographies and will share them either at camp (if we can fit it in) or in class the following week. It's hard to believe we are in our last two weeks of school!
In math we finished up some subtraction strategies, reviewed addition strategies and took our Unit 9 test which will be going home next week! We are officially done learning new material but will have a review of all we learned this year and take an end of the year assessment the last week of school.
In science to learn about air, we made parachutes. We learned that air caused resistance so that our parachutes would not fall fast to the earth due to gravity. We sure love science!

We also LOVED Field Day! Thanks to all who came out to volunteer! We couldn't do it without you and we appreciate you. Mrs. D. put all the pictures together in a video so you could see how our day was. Click HERE to check it out.
See you at camp!
