Greetings from Room 119 and we hope you are having a wonderful break! Perhaps you are someplace warm having wonderful adventures. We had some fun adventures during our week as well!
We had TWO special birthdays to celebrate! Both James and Will went from being six to seven! They had fun celebrating and Ollie had fun visiting with them!

In math we are learning all about shapes. We have been learning all about 2D shapes called polygons (ask us what they are). We also learned about 3D shapes. Ask us the difference between Pyramids and Prisms.
We have been exploring with different attributes of shapes and seeing how shapes are everywhere! We can even make pictures with shapes!
We finished up our
All About Me books and shared them with our fifth grade buddies. They will be put in our portfolios (that will be sent home at the end of the year). If ever you want to see our portfolio, just ask us to bring it home for a quick visit and return it to school the next day.
Once our
All About Me books were done, we started learning about poetry! Did you know that April is Poetry month? The first poem we learned how to write is called an accrostic poem. We wrote accrostic poems about ourselves and on Friday turned them into rainbows (see our first group picture).
To write accrostic poems, we needed to learn about adjectives; what they are and why they are important. During Reader's Workshop we went on adjective hunts in our books. We also learned about verbs and what they are. We did really well learning about these two parts of speech! They are going to help us when we learn to write our next type of poem.
On Friday, we had a special Mystery Reader! Emily H.'s sister came in to read to us and did a wonderful job! As you can see Emily was VERY excited to have her sister read to us. We still have quite a few students who haven't had a Mystery Reader come to Room 119. If the Friday time slot doesn't work for you, Mrs. D. can be very flexible because she knows how much we love having our loved ones come in.
As always, there were more pictures from the week that you can see in a video by clicking
HERE. Special thanks to Miss Coe who, in addition to teaching, took some pictures while Mrs. D. was home with a sick daughter. Health and happiness during the week and we'll see you on April 14th!
