Week 22 in Review

Greetings from Room 119 and another great week of learning! Remember, if you are absent or would just like to review what we are learning, check out our Google Classroom! This week's Thoughtful Thursday project went out to Papa Jim. You can see the project we made him by clicking HERE.

We finished a bend in our opinion/review writing unit and met with partners to edit our work and get advice on some of our goals. We did a great job with this!

A highlight in math was certainly our scroll work! Some of us have written numbers so high that our scrolls are taller than we are. Many of us have asked to take papers home to continue to work on our scrolls. Mrs. Doran also put a link in our math bin in Google Classroom if we run out and want to do more. We sure are motivated! If you have empty toilet paper rolls (the cardboard part) that you could send in for us to use to house our scrolls, we'd love it!

You have probably heard of the BIG excitement in Room 119! We are now entomologists! We each set up a habitat and now have two mealworms to observe and study! We are so excited! Ask us what four things all insects need!

Rasheed (our Lion friend who also helps us in phonics) disappeared from our classroom! We were worried but then he sent us a postcard from NYC! We've been learning all about vowel teams! Ask us what we know about vowel teams.

February is around the corner and full of fun! Be sure to check Mrs. D's email or Skyward for all the exciting details!
PS. We love Mystery Readers!

Week 21 in Review

Greetings from Room 119! This week for Thoughtful Thursday we lifted up Panda and you can see her video HERE. If we have an older sibling or neighbor who had Mrs. Doran, they lifted up Panda too. She has gotten a project since her very first year and is now in second grade! She's amazing!

We got a card this week from Mr. Bill thanking us for our project and we also got a special delivery from Mr. Mike (who nominated Molly) of LOTS of new markers for our projects! We were so excited!! We love mail in Room 119 for sure and are learning that our small acts of kindness can make a big difference!

Most of us finished our iReady reading diagnostic and we did GREAT over all. Some of us grew 150% since our assessment in the fall. Mrs. Doran will send home all the information once everyone is done.

When those present in class were done, we asked Mrs. Doran if we could have a bit of time in the "classroom" (aka Google Classroom). We love checking things out. Remember you can go over all of our lessons in there, review any lesson, access our math curriculum and more! Remember too if you are absent Mrs. Doran will post a video of what you missed. Please make sure you check it out as it's hard to keep track with so many in and out. Still, thank you to all those staying home when they are sick! Mrs. Doran appreciates that more than you know!

We had some brand new concepts introduced to us in math this week. We learned about the dime and we also learned about the math symbols greater than and less than. Ask us about it!

A very Happy Birthday to our friend Stella who turned 7! Sto Lat!

No Mystery Reader again this week but we'd sure love to have you!
Have a wonderful week.

Week 20

Greetings from Room 119! This week we lifted up Mrs. Gina who was lifted up by Room 119's Sensational Second Graders in 2017. Sadly, she is fighting breast cancer again but we hope our cards make her feel a bit better. You can see the project we made for her by clicking HERE.

We've been doing awesome in reading and using our different tools when we get to tricky words. We even do a triple check (ask us what that is). Next week we will do our Reading iReady diagnostic. Mrs. Doran is also meeting with us to read with us individually and is so excited by our growth so far.

We continue to work on opinion writing and supporting those opinions. We also learned a lot about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and wrote and drew pictures about him. You can also see a video that LLE made HERE because "Together We're Better."

We took our Unit 4 Assessment on Monday and most of us did awesome! The rest of the week we broke up and worked on the iReady Diagnostic and lessons. Our class average improved by 54% which is great! Mrs. D. will send home all iReady data to you once we are done with reading! Don't forget to get a good breakfast and a good night's sleep!

Thank you to all who are keeping us home when we're sick. Remember, Mrs. Doran posts all of our lessons and a video for just us on days we are out so be sure to check Google Classroom when we're feeling better. Also, did you know you can see all of our lessons and review in our Google Classroom too?

PS. We love Mystery Readers and missed having one last week (hint hint).

Week 19

Greetings from Room 119! We had a great first week back and it was wonderful to see everyone! Thank you to all who stayed home if they were feeling yucky. Remember that if you are not in school Mrs. Doran always posts a video for you in Google Classroom so be sure to check it.

This week's Thoughtful Thursday project went out to an amazing 9th grader named Molly. You can see the project we made for her by clicking HERE. If you know of someone who could use some love from some fabulous first graders, email Mrs. D. at lauradoran@wlcsd.org.

We are nearing the end of our math unit! We will be taking the assessment next week and then get ready for our iReady assessment in math. You can check out all of our lessons in Google Classroom.

We started a new unit in writing. We are writing about our opinions! We are working on stating an opinion, supporting that opinion, and writing an ending. We're also practicing editing.

We started a new unit in reading! We are learning to stop at the first signs of trouble and try all the tools we've been learning until our reading makes sense. We do the triple check! Does it look right? Does it sound Right? Does it make sense? We practiced our reading with partners on Friday and loved it!

Camryn's brother did an awesome job being our Mystery Reader on Friday! We would love to have more Mystery Readers! All are welcome, just visit the Google Classroom under Classwork or email Mrs. Doran.
Have a great week!
