A Year in Review

What a year it's been  It feels like yesterday I was meeting all of your children for the first time and here we are, saying goodbye (or so long for now...).

I hope that you enjoyed looking through your child's portfolio!  The growth this year was amazing. You have raised some amazing little people.

Thank you to those of you who sent me a nice email/ note and even some gifts (I promise I'll get to those thank-you's soon). I know this is a busy time of year, but please click HERE for a quick (I promise) survey to give me a bit of feedback. I've only had four responses as of this blog being published.

Grades will be posted to Skyward on June 20th so please be sure to check them out.

It is so important to do a little reading (especially) over the summer because the "summer slide" is real.  If you don't use it, you lose it. I have a blog on some summer suggestions you can check out by clicking HERE. I also hope your children enjoyed the gift I made them and are busy writing me about their summer.

Our last week (2.5 days) was quick but some things should be said...

A VERY happy birthday to our friend Paige who is starting her summer as a seven year old!

A HUGE thank you to Gavin's Mom and Jonny's Mom for planning an end-of-the-year party and for the moms who came to help out.  It was the perfect way to end our first grade year!

We also said goodbye to our 5th grade buddies!  We'll miss them next year! Don't blink because this is going to be you.  These Fantastic Fifth Graders were once Fabulous First Graders...

This blog will always be here in case you want to look back at what this school year was like. I hope that you have enjoyed it and that you'll keep in touch!

Room 119 is officially closed for the summer! I do check email from time to time but am looking forward to a slower pace (for a while anyway).
HAVE A GREAT SUMMER!

Week 37 in Review

Greetings from Camp Doran! We had a marvelous time as you know from the letters you received from us campers! It was a busy and exhausting week but we still had tons of learning and fun!

Thank you families, for sending in our sleep gear for reading under the stars, letters to us each day, care packages and more! We are so lucky to have you in our lives!
Each day we worked in our camp journals (which reviewed all the things we learned this year), read under the stars, took hikes and learned songs, made a craft, had mail-call where we received letters from home and got special care packages and of course wrote home to tell everyone about our adventures.
We also had new learning around our campfire. We explored what happens when you mix two liquids together, wondered if toothpaste was a solid or a liquid and made Oobleck (cornstarch and water) with our 5th grade buddies and is also a fun thing to do at home.
As we finish up our last full week of learning in first grade we are reminded that YOU are our greatest teachers. Thank you for cheering us on and being an active participant in our learning. YOU are going to help us be the best we can be!
In addition to camp fun, we were able to celebrate Micah's "Unbirthday" (since he will turn 7 over the summer). Thank you for the fun treats!
Our last LLE Leader of the Month Assembly was this week and we were so proud of our friend, Katelyn, who was nominated by not only Mrs. D. but US! She's done a great job showing responsibility!

We even had a last Mystery Reader! Isaac was thrilled when his mom and his cousin came to join us around the campfire for a story. Thank you to all who came in to read this year! It has been such fun!

If  you are on Twitter or if you have "liked" Mrs. Doran's Class's facebook page, you know that there were A LOT of pictures from this week.  To see even more, grab a snack, a seat, and click HERE.
Have a great weekend or last few days of school (depending on when you see this)!

Week 36 in Review

Greetings from Room 119!  We had a busy week! This was our last week to do a Thoughtful Thursday Project.  We hope you enjoyed watching them as much as we enjoyed making them. You can see last week's project by clicking HERE. With Monday off and Friday being Field Day, we had three days of academics. Mrs. D. didn't take hardly ANY pictures of our classroom time.

Our week wasn't exciting for pictures anyway... it including math iReady testing, DRA testing and a top-secret writing project for our amazing volunteers.  Thank you to the moms of Bianca, Gavin, Jagger, Nathan, Maia and Evelyn for coming in regularly to help us. We have something special for you that will go home Monday.
Of course the highlight of our week was FIELD DAY! We spent the day outside in the sun having FUN! Mrs. D. did take a lot of pictures of the day (over 100) that you can see by clicking HERE.
We also let our butterflies soar. We found a perfect place in our playground with flowers nearby for our winged friends. We waved goodbye and wished them well!
We ended the week with a special Mystery Reader. Miller's dad surprised him when he showed up and read a wonderful book by one of our favorite authors (The Sneetches by Dr. Seuss).

We are excited for our last full week of school where we'll be learning in Room 119 (though it will look a little different).  If you want to check out pictures, Mrs. D. will be tweeting out and posting to our class facebook page each day so be sure to check in.  Don't forget to send us mail for mail call!
Have a great week!
