This week we started homework! As Mrs.
Doran learns the new curriculum and does her best to explain classroom procedures, there are still times when the directions may not be entirely clear. She appreciates any and all feedback you give her. It helps her to clarify things so that everyone understands or lets her know she is on the right track! She has added a "Parent References" page on the right side of the blog to answer those questions that come up frequently, please be sure to check out that page!

Each week you will see math homework coming home in our homework bags. If you ever have questions about the homework and/ or want to read about extra games and tips you can do at home, click
here. It will lead you to Everyday Math's parent notes for the different units we will be working on. You can of course also contact Mrs.
Doran.

You will also see a book that we can read to you. This book may be very easy for us (so that we can work on our fluency) or it may be a bit challenging (for us to work on our accuracy or how to read the words). If we are having difficulty when we read to you, use the
laminated bookmark that Mrs.
Doran sent home to give you tips on how to help us without just 'giving' us the word.

The third thing you will see every week is a writer's journal. This is something that we can do by ourselves, but we would love it if you would watch us to see how we write. You can help us stretch out our words so that we write down all of our sounds. Mrs.
Doran sent home a laminated alphabet and 'chunks and blends' sheet to help us. You can help guide us, but Mrs.
Doran doesn't expect our writing to be spelled perfectly.
We only need to write one page for the entire week. (Even though we love to write, don't let us write more than one entry or we'll run out of space!)
We are also asking that you read to us each night! Choose a small chapter book and just read us a chapter a night or read us our library books. Reading to us is so important because when you read to us we build our understanding (comprehension), understand how readers should sound when they read out loud (fluency) and learn new words (expand our vocabulary) that we can use in our writing and everyday conversations!
Choose a day that works best for you to complete the work.
All homework is due the following Monday.
If you have questions or comments, click below and leave Mrs. Doran a message, or send her an email. She encourages parents to contact her!
