Greetings from Room 119! The voting is closed on Mrs. D's blog and our new pet visitor has arrived. Be sure to visit the blog and meet our new friend, "Barney the Bat" who is located right above our class fish, Rocky. Barney likes to eat mosquitos, so be sure to feed him when you visit. We also will be learning about bats all month with our 5th Grade Buddies!
Our very own Lincoln was on Monday Morning's broadcast sharing his PBIS story! To see whose tickets get pulled weekly, be sure to check out the PBIS blog by clicking HERE or follow the PBIS FB page by clicking HERE.
We had a new visitor crash in on Friday and our room is starting to look like Halloween! There weren't any parent volunteers eager to plan a party for us so Mrs. Doran is going to try her hand at party planning (unless some wonderful person feels sorry for her and offers to take over...). Please send in $2 to help cover costs.
Having started reading groups, Mrs. Doran now knows what our "Just Right" books are so she gave us a book shopping list. We use our list (which doubles as a bookmark) when we are choosing books from our classroom library. While we learned different ways to read books, to become a better reader it is also very important that we practice in "Just Right" books.
When we read our books at home, you can help us by reminding us to look at picture clues, getting our mouth ready with the first sound and using our finger. Reading at home each night really does help us, so please make this a priority!
In writer's workshop, we continue to work on using good spaces and sounds in our writing. We are really growing as writers and writing with more detail in our pieces. We have had some difficulty transferring what we do in Writer's Workshop to other areas of the day where we write, but we are working on this. On Friday, we made Get Well cards for Mrs. Turek's friend's son, Matt, who was recently paralyzed from the waist down in a hockey accident.
Mrs. D. is designating Fridays in Room 119 as "FUN FRIDAYS." Our Fridays feel pretty busy with PE, Music, 5th Grade Buddies, Library Book Check-Out and our Mystery Reader. This week we made Jack-o-Lantern Pumpkins. We are working on Sums of 10 in math so on our pumpkins we wrote two numbers that add to ten in the eyes and the number 10 in the nose. Knowing numbers to ten quickly will help us in other areas of math. Also please work with us at home with counting by 2s, 5s, 10s, and 1s both forward and backward.
Teeth have been falling out of mouths left and right in Room 119. Three people lost teeth on the same day so there is a bit of a wait on our Tooth Tote. Did you know that we graph lost teeth in Room 119? With some more loose teeth, Mrs. D. thinks that there will be more lost teeth in October than there were in September.
We ended our week in our favorite way, with a Mystery Reader. This week, Troy's sister came in and read to us. She is a LLE alumni so it was fun for her to come back. She read a batman book that actually starred Troy! She did a great job and we really enjoyed the book!
Don't forget to click HERE or look below to view extra pictures from the week. Also, the Fun Run is coming soon, so remember to get those pledges in! We can win fun prizes!! The Fun Run is the PTA's major fundraiser.
