Week 16

Greetings from Room 119! Mrs. Doran loved meeting with all of our families at conferences last Thursday! Because of the tragic events in Oxford, Mrs. Doran didn't do a blog or Thoughtful Thursday project last weekend since we were home on Thursday and Friday.
This week we lifted up the family of the Great-Uncle of Lucas. You can see the video we made for him by clicking HERE.
If you know of someone who could use some encouragement from some fabulous first graders, email Mrs. D. at lauradoran@wlcsd.org.

We had a special delivery all the way from Qatar last week! Thoughtful Thursday recipient, Captain Julie, sent each of us our very own camel from the dessert complete with hand written labels from her and her dog Sampson to each of us. She also gave Mrs. D. a cool air-force hat! We love our camels and many of them have come back often to school.

We finished our writing unit and also had fun writing about what school was like in the past in response to our Social Studies lesson. Just a reminder for all who wanted to share traditions to get those to Mrs. D. soon. We'll be sharing them this week.

We love our phonics lessons. You can access all of our lessons in our Google Classroom and should check there on days when we are absent for a video hello from Mrs. Doran. The Google Classroom is a great way to see what we're learning, practice, and review.

In math we are learning about measurement. We measured the length of things using non-standard units like blocks, paper-clips, books, and more! No matter what unit we used we noticed we need to choose ONE unit and use it over and over. We need to line up our unit at the end of what we are measuring. And we should not have any spaces between units.

Last week, Mrs. Doran read an Elf on the Shelf book to us and the next day, this little guy showed up! We voted to name him Snowball. He moves each day both in our regular classroom and our Google Classroom. We've had a lot of fun looking for him and know he's learning a lot being in Room 119.

Have a great week!
