Week 16 in Review

Greetings from Room 119!  Mrs. Doran survived the last week of the holidays with us!  We actually did a wonderful job and had a lot of fun this week (while learning of course).  This week's "Thoughtful Thursday" project went to the family of seven-year-old Morgan who died last August.  We did such a great job on this project and already Mrs. Doran has been getting a lot of great feedback, especially from Morgan's family who were so grateful to get our gift of kindness right before their first Christmas without their daughter.  To see our project, you can click HERE.

We did a WONDERFUL job on our maps.  Most of us included all of the items on our rubric and we did an excellent job talking about them and sharing them with our peers!
We finished up our letter unit by using LLE's post office service.  Mrs. D. bought us all a piece of stationery to write to our 5th Grade Buddies.  We also learned how to address our 'envelopes'.  Mrs. Schryer's class will be selling stationery and running our post office until the end of the year.  To buy a 'stamped' stationery, it will cost you 2 cents.
We finished up the books we had been reading with Mrs. Doran.  In January she will begin testing us again for our second marking period report cards.  PLEASE remember to keep reading over the winter break so we're not too rusty!
Math can be FUN!  We loved this Jenga game Mrs. D. made.  You can make one too.  There are numbers on each piece and we each took two pieces out and added them together.  You could also find the difference between two numbers, talk about odd and even... the ways to play this game are numerous!
We also took our math test this week.  It was hard because we had many students out this week, but we all got it in and at first glance did well!  Mrs. D. will be sending home the tests next year (that sounds funny).
We loved learning about the December holidays. We learned the history of Hanukkah with King Attichus and the Macabees as well as the history of Christmas and the birth of Jesus Christ.  We also enjoyed learning about different customs related to the holidays like dreidels, menorahs, reindeer and Santa!
You probably also heard that we had an elf show up in Room 119 this month.  Fuzzy was a great addition and very polite.  He even left us a note on Friday.  He did OK, but we were able to point out corrections he should have made!
On Friday we celebrated our friend Taylor's 7th birthday!  She opened a book from her family and Mrs. D. read it to the class.  Of course we sang to her too.  There were a lot of celebrations in Room 119 this week, including a GREAT party!  Special thanks to Grant's mom for planning everything and to the moms of Lily, Ishaan & Landon for also coming in and helping out.  Mrs. D. took lots of pictures and put them together in a video you can see by clicking HERE.  You can also see extra pictures from the week by clicking HERE.

Wishing Everyone a Wonderful Holiday Season!

Mr. & Mrs. Doran, Joe, Ali Jane, Zach, Sean, Pele', Morty & (of course) Little Blue!
**See you in 2015**
