Week 18 in Review

Greetings from Room 119!  You may have noticed that there are some extra kiddos in the picture above.  That's because we were short subs on Thursday so had 6 extra kindergarten friends join us for the day.  We were all very flexible and had a great day.  They helped us with our Thoughtful Thursday project too, which you can see by clicking HERE.

We started Star Students this week and have had so much fun!  We share a poster, sit in a special spot in the classroom, get a cool book and wear an awesome star cape all day.  Remember to check homework bags early parents, because you may have homework too, if we are drawn to be the Star Student.
We had a lot of fun this week at an assembly where we learned all about empathy!  This was a great assembly and we know quite a bit about the topic from our class meetings and Thursday projects.  PBIS will be introducing their PIF program coming soon so stay tuned!
In math this week we learned about tens and ones.  We did this by manipulating blocks and later using symbols (lines to equal 10 and squares or dots to equal 1).  For example: 47 is 4 tens and 7 ones (or llll ....... if we wrote it out with tens and ones). We did really well with this concept and will do more with it and greater than less than next week!
We learned a lot about MLK this week through books, articles, videos and magazines.  We also played a game on our new INTERACTIVE WHITE BOARD!  Thank you all who voted in the Bond Election.  Mrs. Doran worked more with this new technology and is learning more about it each day!
Mrs. D. is working hard to test all of us in our reading and will change our paper books as necessary.  Please remember to leave feedback if you're finding books too hard or too easy.  Keep reading with us each day.  So far everyone tested has made really nice progress!
In writing, we started using Time Order Words to help organize our writing in a way that makes sense.  We did a great job with this.  Please note that in next week's homework there is a change in the writing portion.  We are going to keep practicing using time order words!

As always there was much more to Week 18 and you can see it all by clicking HERE.

There was no Mystery Reader this week because only teachers had school on Friday.  Reminder that Monday there is no school either, but you can go to WLN to participate in their awesome MLK Day activities!  To learn more about it, click HERE.
