Week 9 in Review

Greetings from Room 119!  Despite having Tuesday off for the election, we had a jam-packed week.  On Thursday we paused to remember Jagger's family friend, Brandon.  Initially our intention was to send him a Thoughtful Thursday project, but our plans sadly had to change.  To see the cards we sent his family, you can click HERE.

Mrs. D. did not meet with reading groups this week and instead read with many of us individually.  We are making such great progress even from just a few months ago.  It's amazing to see our growth.  Keep up the great work at home too!
Similarly, many of us are meeting our writing targets while increasing our stamina.  We love being able to share our writing and reflect to see if we're able to make our targets and to set new goals for ourselves.
In math we learned how parts can make up a whole and inputted that information into total-part-part diagrams.  They are especially easy to see when working with dominos.  A domino has two parts, but we can add up those parts to equal the total domino.
We also went to the computer lab twice last week with Mrs. Doran to do an iReady test.  iReady is a test we take on the computer that is made just for us.  Based on how we answer a question, it chooses a next question for us.  We took assessments in both math and reading.  A few of us did not finish so will finish up soon with Ms. Qonja.
Speaking of Ms. Qonja she led our first PBIS assembly of the month.  In the month of October, we were focusing on respect.  In Room 119, Paige was recognized as a student who is always showing respect to others. She was very excited and surprised.  This month, we are focusing on Kindness.

Of course we ended the week in our most favorite way with a Mystery Reader.  We all thought the Mystery Reader was going to be a mom until Mrs. Doran used the pronoun "he" in a clue.  Evelyn's dad read us the book, "Duck for President" which was perfect with the recent election AND because we love Duck and Farmer Brown books!  He did a great job and we also learned a lot!

Mrs. Doran's Amazing Uncle Ziggy (Last year's class made him a Thoughtful Thursday package that you can see HERE) lost his battle with cancer late last week and she had a busy weekend with family (and working on report cards) so is not going to have an "extra pictures" video this week.  She will be out on Monday for his funeral.
She will send the regular email blast on Monday.  Please remember that we have conferences this Thursday.  If you did not sign up for a time, Mrs. Doran signed you up for one.  Please check your Skyward account or click HERE to see the times.  If you cannot make your scheduled conference, please let Mrs. Doran know as soon as possible.
