Week 8 in Review

Greetings from Room 119!  This week for our Thoughtful Thursday we lifted up the Grandma of a 5th grader at our school.  Please take a moment to check out the project we made for her by clicking HERE.  If you know someone who could use some love from some fabulous first graders, send Mrs. D. an email.

Room 119 did an AWESOME job raising money for the Fun Run.  We raised $961.28 and had the highest percentage of participation in the school with 71% of our families participating so THANK YOU!  Miller brought in $160 for the Fun Run so he'll have a special pizza lunch with Mrs. Doran, a friend and (of course) Little Blue.
We had a lot of people win prizes from our classroom too, including an iPad Mini!  So proud of all of Room 119!  Great job!
We've really enjoyed reading our Scholastic Magazines, watching the short videos that accompany them and playing the games.  We can do all this at home too!  Just use the code on the front page of the Scholastic Magazines!
We've done such a wonderful job at thinking about math and checking our thinking!  This week we took a Unit 2 assessment (assessments are not allowed to come home).  We all did a great job!  Mrs. D. will be entering scores in Skyward soon.
Our focus in reading this week was Making Connections!  All week we thought about events in stories we were reading to see if we could connect those events with our experiences.  We did a great job and learned that reading is not just about reading words but UNDERSTANDING what we read.
We had a fun Halloween week and made some great jack-o-lanterns to help spruce up Room 119.  These and other papers that didn't come home in Friday's folder, will come home next week.
We had a surprise Mystery Reader on Friday before lunch!  Savannah's sister was able to come in and read before leaving town and did a great job.  Savannah was very surprised!  If you have not yet signed up to read, PLEASE send Mrs. Doran an email and secure a date for your child.

And finally a very special thank you to everyone who helped make our Halloween Parade and Party such a great time!  We had so much fun during our party!  Mrs. D took lots of pictures that you can see in a video by clicking HERE.

To see more from our week, you can click HERE.  Also, 62% of our families participated in the Homework Survey.  You can read the results on the "Survey Says" page on the blog.  You can reach that page quickly by clicking HERE.

Don't forget... There is no school on Tuesday November 3rd.
