Greetings from Room 119. This week's Thoughtful Thursday project went out to Jen who recently found out that she has cancer in her brain, breast, lung and pancreas. Our letters to her are already on their way. She saw the video we sent her and was very thankful. You can see that video by clicking HERE.
We had TEAMS this week too. You won't see us in this picture because most of us are on a different TEAM but we all did the same activity. We learned what a community is and built our TEAM community. In Room 119 we found connections we had with each other and learned we are more alike than we thought! Our next TEAM meeting will be in November.
We are doing so awesome on our Reading Stamina and it shows! We read for almost a half hour at one time this week! We also are getting better at using strategies to help us. This week we focused on using sounds to stretch through the sounds.
We also love reading in groups with Mrs. D. You may have noticed pictures like this on the blog and weekly videos. Mrs. D. holds a phone like this too and she can zero in on us (individually) as we read and talk to just us without interrupting the rest of the group. It's really neat.
We each have Targets in Room 119 and are growing as writers. Ask us what our target is and encourage us to work on it in our Writing homework too. Speaking of homework, don't forget to take the survey Mrs. D sent out regarding homework. Survey results will be posted under SURVEY SAYS next week.
We have begun reading some nonfiction text each week using Scholastic News articles that the PTA purchased for us (thank you PTA). On the front of the magazine is a website where you can go to learn more. We enjoy playing games and watching a video to learn even more about the given topic.
In math we worked on counting on when adding and we also worked with word problems. We really have to think when answering these. We have been using different strategies and even acting out problems to see if our answers make sense.
Did you know each week we have classroom meetings and do a program called "Second Steps" where we focus on learning about coping skills and more?
This week's planned Mystery Reader had to cancel, so Mrs. Doran called her parents and her dad came in to read to us! We were so excited and were able to guess when Mrs. D. read the last clue (This Papa has grandchildren named Joey, Ali Jane, Zach and Sean...). We also enjoyed asking Mrs. D's dad about Mrs. Doran when she was little.
Isaac took this picture of Mrs. D. and her dad since we always end our blogs like this. :-)
As always, this is just a snapshot of our week. To see more, you can click HERE.
