Greetings from Room 119! We had a great week! This week's Thoughtful Thursday went out to Gilberto who is a friend of Bianca. We loved being able to lift him up. His birthday is Friday, October 9th, so while our letters didn't make it there in time for his special day, hopefully he got to see our video. You can see it to by clicking HERE.
We started reading groups this week. We've loved reading! We can get our mouths ready when we come to a word we don't know. This strategy often helps us get the word.
We continue to work on our Writing Stamina in Room 119 and love Writers' Workshop. Our favorite time is sharing our writing. We also are getting individual targets or things to work on. Ask us about it!
In math we used a life-size number-line to understand Turn-Around Facts. With just a few examples we got the concept. Basically if we know 3+2=5, then we know 2+3=5.
We also worked on the concept "Counting On" to help us solve addition problems. We can take the big number in our hand and count on.
We can do this with dice too. Instead of couting each individual dot, we can start with 5 and count on 6, 7, 8, 9 to get the answer. We discovered that when adding two numbers and counting on, it's faster to start with the big number.
We ended the week with a Mystery Reader! We were excited to have Bo's mom come in and read to us. She was able to read two great books and we were a wonderful audience. If you haven't signed up to be a reader yet, email Mrs. D.
Of course this is just a snapshot of what we did. To see more pictures (including some cute group pictures from when Mrs. Doran taught us PE because there weren't enough subs on Friday), click HERE. If you haven't yet, please send in a $5 donation to cover all parties for the year!
