Greetings from Room 119! This week we lifted up one of Mrs. Doran's former first graders for Thoughtful Thursday. You can see what we did for Faith by clicking HERE. Please keep her and family in your thoughts as her brain surgery will be Monday.
Did you know that LLE's PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention Support) is starting something called TEAMS? Each month we will look at a different trait, learn all about it and practice it. This week we met with our TEAMS which will stay the same for the remainder of our time at LLE. Each TEAM has a leader (staff) and students from each grade. We are really looking forward to working together. This week we met up with our TEAM and next week we will start our first lesson!
We also had a blast at our Color Fun Run! Special thanks go to Evelyn's mom who snapped this picture! We are missing a few runners but you can see more of us by clicking on a video Mrs. D. made HERE.
Remember to turn in those Fun Run Donations. They are due on October 23rd and we'd love to raise a lot of money so that our school can keep putting on awesome events and learning opportunities for us! There are many raffle prizes AND the top earner from Room 119 gets a pizza lunch with Mrs. Doran, a friend and of course, Little Blue.
In reading we continue to work on our stamina and meet in reading groups. Mrs. Doran has seen some great progress especially from those who are staying focused and practicing their reading. Rereading books (including our paper books) is really helpful. Mrs. Doran increased ALL of our levels in our paper books for next week's homework. Be sure to let her know how it goes when they come home next week.
Room 119 LOVES writing! We were worried we wouldn't have Writer's Workshop because we had a bus safety assembly. When Mrs. D. said we would, we cheered! Our writing stamina is improving each day and many of us are making our individual targets! Ask us what they are!
In math we've been exploring sums to ten and working a lot with Ten Frame. If you are unfamiliar with Ten Frame, Mrs. Doran made a video last year that explains it and that you can see HERE. She also has fun practice videos under "video help" on her blog. Here we were playing Top It and realized that some cards are equal even if they don't look the same. We saw the cards as 4+4 and 5+3 but both equal 8. We also saw that both were missing two frames or 10-2=8.
In Social Studies we learned about Past, Present and Future and did a GREAT job! Mrs. D. can't wait to see the Timelines we did for homework and display them in the hallway on Monday!
We love meeting with our fifth grade buddies! We've been doing fun things with bats and this week we made bats to show off the books we're 'batty' about! You'll see these bats soon in the halls of school!
We met Miss Hawk on Friday. Miss Hawk is studying to be a teacher and came in to observe Mrs. D. on Friday. During book check-out, she read us a Halloween book and did a great job!
We had a lot of fun celebrating Maia's 7th birthday! We sang to her and told her, "It's like heaven to be seven!" We've been doing a lot of rhyming in Room 119.
Maia was really surprised when it was her mom showed up to be our Mystery Reader! She had time to read two awesome books and we were a wonderful audience. If you haven't yet, please consider signing up for a Mystery Reader date.
As always, this was a (pretty big) snapshot of our week! You can click HERE if you'd like to see additional pictures of our everyday learning. Remember to sign up for a parent-teacher conference if you haven't already.
