Week 31 in Review

Greetings from Room 119! It was a weird weather week outside AND inside for us. Our heating unit had it hot one day and cold another but we think it's finally fixed! Our Thoughtful Thursday project went out to Jayce's Gigi. You can check the project we made for her HERE.

We have been inhaling books but have asked that Mrs. Doran expand our independent reading time. We're reading for at least 30 minutes now when she meets with others. Our current read-aloud is "The Secret Zoo" by a local Michigan author. Ask us about the book!
We wrapped up writing about fishes and have also been finishing up our biography reports that we'll give orally in class next week. We've had a lot going on in writing but have been doing great. We are really focusing on editing for conventions and content.
We wrapped up Unit 7 last week and began Unit 8 where we are learning about shapes. We continue to work on explaining our thinking in writing and we're really improving. Mrs. Doran gave us a simple question this week - "What is a square?". We would give an attribute, but then she'd show us another shape that could match our description. We finally came up with "a square is a four sided shape with four sides equal in length and four right angles." Ask us what a right angle is.
We ended the week with a Mystery Reader. This week, Cruz's mom came in and she read us a great book. Thanks for coming in!

We also talked a lot about earth day and did some activities that involved paint (so Mrs. D. didn't get any pictures- too busy). Hopefully you are out enjoying this wonderful weekend and doing something kind for the earth! Have a great weekend and week!
