Week 17 in Review

Greetings from Room 119!  We had a REALLY short week due to a lot of snow.  Unfortunately the three days off we had also came with frigid temps.  We were able to go outside once we got back to school.  Remember to always send us with snowpants and boots because we go outside as long as the windchill is 0 or above.  Also you may want to put a pair of dry socks in our backpacks as sometimes they are wet when we come in from recess.
A new year has brought us a new teacher!  Miss Coe will be working with us through early May.  Right now she is observing Mrs. Doran and working with small groups.  She is very excited to be working with us and we are so happy (and lucky) to have her.  To learn more about Miss Coe, click HERE.
Because it was a short week, we didn't have "Fun Friday" but did have fun getting back into our routines.  We enjoyed having Writer's Workshop and in Reading we are paying attention to what we think about what we are reading and connections that we make.  Mrs. D. will not be meeting with reading groups this month because she will begin testing us.  Next Wednesday we will have a guest teacher so that Miss Coe and Mrs. Doran can test us in reading.
We continued to work on measurement in math and we talked about estimates in length.  We learned that about two fingers are an inch and about one finger is a centimeter.  We also learned about yards and feet.  Estimating is a good skill to have when you don't have standard tools around.
We enjoyed celebrating Devin's birthday!  He turned 7 this week!  It's like "heaven" to be "seven."  We also had three students come back from break having lost teeth.  The tooth tote will get to you soon if you're waiting for it.  Thanks for your patience!
We did have some fun on Friday and that was our Mystery Reader!  We were all excited to see that it was Ward's mom who had come to read to us.  She read "The Cat in the Hat" and did a great job!  We're still looking for some Mystery Readers to sign up.  PLEASE sign up to be a Mystery Reader if you have not yet done so.  Mrs. D. would really like every child to have the opportunity to have someone that loves them come in and read.

Though it was a short week, Mrs. D. managed to take a few extra pictures so you can see what we were up to. You can view that video below or click HERE.  Also, Mrs. D. has updated the blog with January's events.  Be sure to check it out to see what new and exciting things are happening at our school!
