Week 35 in Review

Greetings from Room 119!  It's hard to believe we only have one full week of school left!  We still have a lot of things to fit in between now and then and we've done a great job staying focused.  We had a great week with the highlight being FIELD DAY!  Mrs. D. took a ton of pictures and videos and put them together for you to see.  Hopefully it will give you a good idea of how amazing our Field Days are!  You can click HERE to check out the video!

We also got to visit a Wax Museum.  Actually, it wasn't a REAL Wax Museum, it was our very own fifth graders dressed as famous people from history.  We got to visit many different people and learn all about them.
In science, we have learned about solids and we have learned about liquids.  Now we are experimenting with what happens when we mix solids and liquids together.  We each had our own zip-lock bag with a solid it in and we added water to see what would happen.
Mrs. Doran had the same solid items in containers and we added water to them too.  We enjoyed watching how they changed throughout the week.  Next week the water will be evaporated and we will see what has happened to the solids.
In math we are doing a lot of review.  We have been working on money and time and, of course, MATH FACTS!  You may have heard us talk about the 'Bridge' game.  This is a fun game where we race answering math facts.  Ask us about it!
Did you know we've been reading Charlotte's Web?  Many of us had our own copy of the book from home or the library and we enjoyed following along while Mrs. Doran read.  Mrs. D. continues to test us in reading and has enjoyed listening to us read on RAZ kids.  Only 7 people answered the survey she sent out (all positive feedback) so she will not be purchasing it for us over the summer.  She will be applying for a grant to get RAZ kids for k-3 students next year.
After we finished Charlotte's Web, we watched the movie made for the book.  Later we used a Venn Diagram to compare and contrast how the the book and movie were alike and how they were different.  We did a great job on this activity!  We've really enjoyed all the books read to us this year!

We got to celebrate Tomo's and Massimo's birthdays this week!  Happy Birthday Boys!

Our writing included a top secret assignment to celebrate our wonderful volunteers this year.  The moms of Kaden, Massimo, Ethan, Ward and Shane came all year to help us in the classroom and we were so thankful for their helping hands.  Mrs. D. meant to send home our project for them on Friday but with Field Day... forgot.  Thank you ladies for being so outstanding this year!  If we had a single flower for every time you've made us smile, we could walk forever in our garden.
We ended the week in our favorite way with a special Mystery Reader.  This time, Emily W.'s dad came in and read us a great book called, "Caps for Sale."  We were a great audience and Emily was so excited to see her dad.  We have even more Mystery Readers scheduled for next week.  Thank you to those who have contacted Mrs. D. about reading to us!

Of course this was just a snapshot of what we did this week.  To see more, you can click HERE.
