Week 2 in Review

Greetings from Room 119!  We had a wonderful week together and are really starting to get into the routine of school!  Mrs. Doran loved that so many were able to make it to Curriculum Night (What an awesome turnout!)  If you were unable to make it, click HERE.  As she told you at Curriculum Night, each week we will be doing our Thoughtful Thursday project.  To see what we did this week, you can click HERE.

We had a Guest Teacher this week and Mrs. Doran had the opportunity to read with (almost) all of us.  She only has three students to go.  Homework will come home on Monday and most of us should have books that are "Just Right" for us.  For the students she hasn't read with yet, she will be guessing, so please be patient.
Did you hear we had an assembly this week!  The Ned Show came to our school!  Click HERE to learn more about it and of course ask us about it too!
Did you know that September 17th was Constitution Day?  We learned what the Consitution is (America's Rules), learned the Preamble (click HERE) and also learned about Patriotic Symbols.
We learned all about finding the "Just Right" book and reading in the "Just Right" place to help us become better readers.  It is important that we have the tools to practice and comfort and books are key.  Ask us about Mrs. Doran's running shoes and Goldisocks and the Three LiBEARians.  We continue to work on our reading stamina.
Writer's Workshop is going great and we are also building our Writing Stamina.  Next week we will take a 'beginning of the year' writing assessment to help Mrs. D. determine what we need as writers.
Our favorite part of Writer's Workshop is sharing!  There will be a writing portion of our homework coming home next Monday.  Are you wondering how you can help us in writing?  Check out THIS video Mrs. D. made while working with her son when he was in first grade.

In math we've had fun counting up and down by ones, comparing numbers and estimating. Did you know that our Everyday Math is online? Mrs. Doran will go into more detail about this in an email but if you are the playing sort, take a look at the back of our Everyday Folder and you can see a website we can go to as well as our login and password information.
This is just a snapshot of what we did this week.  If you'd like to see more, you can click HERE.  Also, Room 119 is looking for some awesome MYSTERY READERS.  If you would like to sign up, click HERE for more information and available dates.  Date requests will be filled on a first come first served basis.  Please request only ONE date until we all have at least one loved one signed up.

Finally, we asked Mrs. Doran to tell you about book orders.  If EVER you want to order a book for us, there is no need to wait for a book order (Mrs. D. believes in saving trees).  Just go to her blog and click on the blue scholastic box below our theme song.  You can search for any book, author or topic and find it easily and place an order online.

As always, if you have any questions or comments, let Mrs. D. know!  She loves feedback!
