Week 7 in Review

Greetings from Room 119! We can't believe we're so far into October and still enjoying warm weather. Ask us about the witch who dropped in! Of course we did a Thoughtful Thursday project that you can see HERE. It went out to the Great-Aunt to one of our friends in Room 119.

Thank you to those who send in donations for our prize bucket! As candy and Halloween treats are bought, please remember Room 119 for your extras. We LOVE auctions!
We continue to tackle our reading troubles and have begun taking notes when we come across a word that we either don't know the meaning of or don't know how to pronounce. We've done a great job talking about how we are able to solve our problems and explain our thinking.
Our reading really improved this week when our small moments and personal narratives got some "show not tell" descriptions in them. For example, we no longer say we were "scared" instead we say, "My eyes got wide. I was trembling and had my teeth clenched." These were just some of the many ideas we came up with to "show" scared. We are doing this with other emotions as well.
In math we looked at turn around facts and spent some serious time digging deep to find out if turn-around facts can work with subtraction facts too. In our reflection journals, many of us let Mrs. D. know this was hard. We spend a little extra time on it and by the end felt like we understood the concepts!
We also had some fun getting Room 119 ready for Halloween WHILE doing math! Ask us about the cool spiders we made and the bats we made with our buddies.
Did you know that we love Scholastic News! We thank the PTA for this awesome subscription where we get to read some cool nonfiction. This week we learned about treasure! We also looked at the cool online options Scholastic has to extend our learning. Check out the website on the front of our magazine. Our password is MrsDoran119.
We had a great visit from a Mystery Reader this week too! Austin's mom came in and read us a great book called, The Legend of Rock, Paper, Scissors. The best part about this was earlier in the day, Austin and his friend were solving a problem using "Rock, Paper, Scissors!" Thanks for coming in to read to us!

Thank you for everyone who sent in empty toilet paper rolls! We have all we need now!
Have a great week!
