Greetings from Room 119! This week's Thoughtful Thursday project went to the Papa of one of our friends in Room 119. You can see the project by clicking HERE. We are in need of more people to lift up in future weeks. If you know of someone who is in need of some encouragement, please email Mrs. Doran at lauradoran@wlcsd.org
We love our reading time in Room 119 and many of us have noticed some examples of "Show not Tell" in what we read and we've been making note of that and other interesting things we find. We love sharing our love of reading!
Our "Show not Tell" has really improved our small moments and made them more fun to read. We've also been learning from each other as we share our reading with a buddy or with the entire class! Next week we are going to publish one of our favorite stories so we can bring it home to share with you!
In math this week, we worked on odd and even sorts and found it interesting that if doubles facts were odd OR if they were even, the sum was always even. We had some deep "A-ha" moments when we dug deep into the "Why" of our learning. If all goes well, we will take our assessment on Unit 2 late next week. Stay tuned!
We learned about firefighters in our community and did some awesome group learning with our Scholastic News magazines! We even made posters to share our learning with friends. Ask us what we learned!
With our 5th Grade Buddies we made some awesome bookmarks! Help us find some perfect books to use these in! We did a great job following directions too. They turned out great!
There is so much else that happened in Room 119. Congratulations to Emme who was voted by her peers as being a student who shows respect consistently in Room 119 and to Isiah who was also given the award. In addition, congrats to Mrs. Bandy who was recognized by the staff and thank you to all those students who sent in money for the Fun Run! Included are some pictures from our Free Choice. We do a lot of learning through play!
We ended our week with a special Mystery Reader. Emme's mom came in to read us the book, "Creepy Carrots" which we all enjoyed! She also brought us little pumpkin erasers perfect for the season. If you would like to sign up to be a Mystery Reader in Room 119, check out the "Mystery Reader" page on the blog and send an email to Mrs. D.
Other things:
Word study was the long vowel "a" with the a_e pattern.
Auctions were a huge hit. Thank you to those who sent in items!
The Halloween Parade and Party is on Tuesday.
Students may wear their costume and light make-up to school.
Please make sure the costumes are "elementary school" appropriate.
Tuesday is a half day with dismissal at 12:09.
Have a great week!
