Week 36 in Review

Look Closely!  Mrs. Doran even got in this picture!
Greetings from room 119! We survived our last FULL week of school and had a great time on Monday at our Field Day!  If you haven't yet seen it, Mrs. Doran put together a video of pictures and video that you can see by clicking HERE.

This week was a bit challenging for us.  We needed many reminders from Mrs. Doran to focus, stay on task and "Stop Talking."  Individually we are wonderful students but when together sometimes the desire to talk (and talk louder than others) gets the best of us.  It isn't just Mrs. D. who had problems with it.  Mr. Olack actually brought us back from PE to put our head's down and talk about expectations.  Hopefully our last two days together will be wonderful and we will return to the first graders almost second graders Mrs. Doran knows and loves!

In math we continued to review, review, review! This week we focused a lot on time.  We played the "Bridge" game again (ask us about it) where Mrs. D. showed us a clock (she told us the red hand was the 'short' hand) and we had to quickly tell her the time.  We are getting better even still with getting math correct and getting it quickly.  This is a fun way to practice those building blocks in math that are so critical!

Though our science kit is packed up and returned, it doesn't mean we have stopped learning about science.  Did you know that our Milkweed Bugs laid eggs and we have new nymphs in our habitats?  It has been fun to see a full life-cyle of our insects.  Someone in Mrs. Tisdall's class also brought in a big Hornet's nest so that we could take a closer look at it.  Insects really are amazing!
We also celebrated three "Un-Birthdays" this week!
Happy Un-Birthday Bailey!

Happy Un-Birthday Luke!

Happy Un-Birthday Vasu!

We have been writing away in our notebooks (which were sent home on Friday) and we did our last portfolio piece which was a look back at all our 'First Grade Favorites".  (Shhh... Mrs. D. made all our pieces into a book as an end-of-the-year keepsake for us!)

Our portfolios also came home this week and Mrs. D. hopes you were able to look at them with us and admire how much we have grown as writers!  Practice of course makes permanent so Mrs. D. has another surprise to help keep us writing all summer long!

We actually had three Mystery Readers this week (be sure to check out the slide show to see who our other two Mystery Readers were).  Kaylee's cousin came in at the end of the day Friday to read to us.  She did a great job!

Though this is the last full week in review, Mrs. Doran's blogs aren't quite done yet.  She will put something together to share the fun we will have at our party on Monday and also she will be sharing her "Summer Suggestions" blog with fun ideas for the summer.
Stay Tuned...
