Greetings from Room 119!
As you have read, Field Day was postponed to Monday. It was a good thing because Friday (the original date) was very rainy and cold. We hope you can still make it. We'll be wearing blue shirts so you can find us easily. Don't worry if you can't make it, Mrs. D. will take lots of pictures.
| Happy 7th Birthday Ryan!! We had a great time celebrating with you! |
We finished our last lesson in our math program and Mrs. D has gone back to focusing on some of the basic building blocks of math. We have been taking timed tests, practicing math facts with games and reviewing time and money. We should be able to answer math facts more fluently now and not have to always count them out on our fingers. We also have enjoyed practicing these math skills with our iPod Touches.
We added some more pieces to our portfolio and enjoyed looking back at our work in first grade. Mrs. D. will be sending home our portfolios with us on Friday. She can't wait for you to see how much we've grown as writers! We all have different goals in writing, but as a class we again focused on adding those 'wow' words. Luke G. wrote about loathing something (a word he learned in a book Mrs. D. read to us) instead of not liking something. Great job!
It is hard to believe that our fifth grade buddies won't be at our school next year. They have been wonderful to work with. We met with them on Friday and looked back at our year together and wrote some of our favorite memories on a film strip.
We ended the week as we end all weeks... with a Mystery Reader. Taya's dad came in to read us Dr. Seuss's, "One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish Blue Fish." We loved listening to this classic book and were a great audience (especially for a Friday).
