Week 23 in Review

Greetings from Room 119!  WE DID IT!  We performed 100 acts of kindness by our 100th day of school.  We actually had 99, but Mrs. Doran is part of Room 119 so since she did a lot of things for us on Hundreds Day, we added that to our "Acts of Kindness" board!  Thank you for all who participated.  If you haven't yet passed along your PIF card, please do!  We also spread kindness on Thoughtful Thursday by lifting up Shane.  To hear his story and see our project, click HERE.

As mentioned, we had our 100th Day celebration and we had a GREAT day!  Our shirts turned out wonderful.  We did so many activities that Mrs. D. would be writing too much to tell you about it so if you'd like to 'see' what we did, click HERE.
We celebrated Lily's birthday on Monday!  She's in heaven being seven and also unwrapped a cool game that we can play during indoor recess (and we've had a lot of those lately).  Happy Birthday, Lily!
After break, most of us no longer had mealworms we had PUPAS!  The final stage of our mealworms will be BEETLES!  We also will be having a new insect on Monday!  We can't wait!  Don't forget to be working on your Insect Report and mark your calendar for our Insect Museum!
In math we've been doing a lot of review from time and adding and we've also enjoyed teaching friends our favorite strategies.  We identified the coins and even counted dimes and nickels with pennies!
With everyone in Room 119 being a star, we are back to focusing on handwriting and forming our letters correctly!  We really like working on our handwriting using the interactive white board.  Some of us are still forming our letters incorrectly which can be a hard habit to break.  If you see us forming letters incorrectly, please help us as it will make cursive (eventually) a lot more difficult to learn if we are not doing it correctly now.
We continue to work on our individual targets in writing and using time order words to help organize and add detail.  We've also been doing a lot of nonfiction writing in our science notebooks.
In reading we also have individual goals but most of us continue to work on our fluency at our current levels.  Continued readings of our just write books help us to become more automatic readers. As a group we have been working on making predictions.  Ask us what that means!
We had a special visit from Dr. Beattie who is an orthodontist in our area.  She taught us about how to keep our bodies healthy and to make good choices.  We also did some cool science experiments with her.  You probably saw that she gave us each an activity book, toothbrush and cool pencil!
March is reading Month and with our 5th Grade Buddies we made records with our favorite books on them because "Reading Rocks."  Of course most of us have never seen records so Mrs. Turek gave us a little lesson in history.  She showed us an old record player and how it worked!
On Friday we watched "The Wizard of Oz" and were amazed at how different it was from the book.  We talked throughout the movie but it was all when we were comparing and contrasting the book and movie (which Mrs. Doran thought was GREAT).  We are now reading the second book in the Oz series called "The Marvelous Land of Oz."  Ask us about it!
As always, we ended the week with a Mystery Reader.  Alicia was thrilled to learn that it was her dad who had come to read to us.  He did a wonderful job and read a great book to us!
