Greetings from Room 119! This week's Thoughtful Thursday project went to Bethany and her mom, Nancy. To see our project, you can click HERE. Bethany also is in need of a new wheelchair. If you would like to donate a few dollars to her, every little bit helps. You can click HERE if you would like to help her out.
For word study, we worked on the "og" family. Ask us about a game named "Sparkle" that we play. It helps us with spelling. There will be a greater emphasis on spelling in the last marking period as we prepare for second grade.
We had a visit from a storyteller this week. We enjoyed listening to her and participating in the fun!
In math we did more work with shapes and took our Unit 7 assessment. We did really well on our Unit 8 pretest so after a few days of instruction on new material, we may be ready to take an assessment on that as well. We will be doing more work with place value.
We also have been working with the class iPods to help us with our math fluency. Math fluency is something we work on regularly in Room 119.
We were so happy when Mrs. Doran told us we could get back into our Writer's Notebooks (our nonfiction books are in our portfolios). We continue to work on our targets and many of us have moved on to new targets.
The growth in our writing this year has been amazing! You can see the improvement from just a few months ago. Keep up the great work, Room 119!
Mrs. Doran read with some of us to assess us for report cards. She has a few more students she needs to read with to be sure we are reading at grade level. Please continue to read with us regularly at home.
Did you know we had an Author's Assembly this week? The Authors were actually students at LLE! Our very own, Claire, read at the assembly and did a great job!
On Friday we had a special treat for our Mystery Reader. Yatiri's family came in to read to us a legend from their Equadorian culture. They took turns reading and did a great job and then donated the book to Room 119!
As always, this was just a snapshot from our week. To view more, you can click HERE. Next week there will be no homework due to the holiday week (and many bags being lost over extended break period).
