Week 33 in Review

Greetings from Room 119! Our week went by so fast! We're getting in lots of learning in this final stretch of first grade. This week's Thoughtful Thursday project went to Tommy's parents, Laura and Adam. You can see our project by clicking HERE.

We had fun celebrating our friend Bianca's birthday on Monday.  She knows it's like heaven to be seven. If we have a birthday over the summer and you'd like us to celebrate it in school, let Mrs. D. know.
We have done a lot of work with author's message, predicting and summarizing. A big focus in many of our groups (in addition to working on fluency) is being able to retell the story. We'd love it if you would ask us to summarize the books Mrs. D. sends home with us. It's great practice as she'll be starting our end-of-the-year testing soon!
We had so much fun in science this week! We looked at "little" bits of solids and how they can seem similar to liquids (they pour, keep the shape of their container). Still they keep their small individual shape, so they are solids. Mrs. D. made a "soup" by mixing different ingredients together and then realized she had to ship those ingredients back so she made us separate them. We were given some tools and used great teamwork and communication to get the job done.  Ask us about it!
In math we spent much of the week taking our Unit 8 assessment.  Mrs. D. wanted to make sure we each got small group attention if we had questions and for clarifying our questions. As a group we did very well.  Tests will come home next week and we'll be starting our final unit in math!
We had more than half of our class participate in no screens week which is wonderful since there has been a lot of research on the benefits of turning the screens OFF! We got to celebrate on Friday with a free recess and ice cream.  Way to go!
Our Red Noses came in! We are SO excited for Red Nose Day!  Remember, you can still purchase Laugh-a-Grams for $1 and noses for $1.25 to celebrate #RedNoseDay and have fun.  You can also click HERE to make a donation to help Michigan Kids (and bonus... it's tax deductible). We love seeing people from Room 119 making donations! Michigan Kids helping Michigan Kids!
Of course we ended our week with a visit from a special Mystery Reader.  Jonny was so excited when his Aunt showed up as our Mystery Reader!  She read one of our favorites and did a GREAT job!  If your child has never had a Mystery Reader PLEASE email Mrs. D. She'd love to squeeze you in. We'd all love to have someone special come read to Room 119!

As always, this is a snapshot of what we did this week!  You can see more by clicking HERE. Also, special thoughts to our good friend, Grey who was out this week.  We often tell Mrs. D. how we like to see ourselves so click HERE to see what we sent to Grey.
Have a great week!
