Week 4 in Review

Greetings from Room 119! This week's Thoughtful Thursday project went out to Baby Myles who was born just a few weeks ago on September 17th. To hear his story (and see our project) click HERE. If you know of someone who could use a Thoughtful Thursday project, email Mrs. Doran at lauradoran@wlcsd.org.

This week in reading we started to focus on fiction stories that have a beginning, a middle and an end. In the beginning of a story the characters and setting are often introduced. We spent time specifically looking at the characters and setting in our books and what we learned about them through text and illustrations. Mrs. Doran is currently reading with each of us and will have a sub on Wednesday so she can read with all of us and start reading groups (and send home individual books) soon to build our libraries.
We do so much writing in Room 119 - from writing about our 'teacher' each day, expressing our thinking about math, social studies, to reading and more, and of course working on the craft of writing itself. Next week we will publish a small moment and share it in the hallway for our Loon Lake Community.
In math we learned about even and odd and 'greater than' and 'less than'. We tore out the journal pages we did in the first unit so you could see our work. We will be taking an assessment on Tuesday. You can also log on to Ed Connect (passwords and site is on the back of our purple folders) for more practice if you'd like.
We started learning about community in social studies. We talked about our country, state, county and city and learned about different types of communities like rural, suburban and urban. You can find out more in our Scholastic News that came home on Friday.

And we were VERY excited to learn how to use chrome books! We each have our own login and password and our 5th grade buddies have been a great help. We are working with them to search and get information about bats! We will be working on this again next week too!
Unfortunately, Mrs. Doran's (old and shattered) phone updated itself and she was unable to get the many pictures she took this week off her phone. If she is able to figure it out, she'll post a video. If she wins the lottery she'll buy a new phone and make better videos for you in the future! ;-)
Have a great week and Happy New Year to our Jewish friends!  See you Tuesday!
