Week 8 in Review

Greetings from Room 119! This week's Thoughtful Thursday Project went out to our friend's Papa. You can see the project by clicking HERE. If you know of anyone who could use some encouragement, please email Mrs. Doran at lauradoran@wlcsd.org

We have been doing great in reading. We are building our stamina. We had some great discussions this week about how we "Tackle Trouble" when we get to an unknown word. Ask us what our favorite strategies are.
Mrs. Doran just finished reading us Roald Dahl's "The Witches" which has inspired many of us to write some fantastic spooktacular stories! We have been putting some great, rich words into our pieces. We have learned many of them from our Language Workshop.
We did so much in math this week. We reviewed odd and even, came up with many ways to show a number, learned about frames and arrow problems, played new math games and more! We have finished Unit 2 and will take our assessment on Tuesday. Feel free to look over our learning. Our journal pages from the unit were sent home on Friday.
We continue to learn about community in social studies. This week we made maps of our playground including all the elements we learned in first grade. We did a great job with this!
We raised almost $20,000 in the Fun Run! Thank you all for helping us! The top winners in second grade were treated to a pizza lunch with their teachers and two friends of their choice. We snuck a peek at our friends silly-stringing Ms. Qonja since they raised the most money in the school! Great job everyone!
We love celebrating birthdays in Room 119! Happy Birthday to our friend, Lennon! If you have a birthday coming up, let Mrs. D. know how you'd like to celebrate!
We were so excited to have our first Mystery Reader of the year and the anticipation was high! Carly's mom read us a GREAT book by the author whose books taught Carly to read! We loved it! We need more Mystery Readers so click HERE and let Mrs. D. know when you can come in and read!

Have a great week and we'll see you on Halloween!
