Week 6 in Review

Greetings from Room 119! This week for our Thoughtful Thursday project we lifted up the dad of one of our friends in Room 119. You can see the project by clicking HERE. If you know of someone who could used some encouragement, please email Mrs. Doran at lauradoran@wlcsd.org.

In reading this week we looked for ways that authors use to communicate to the reader HOW to read their words. We found things like elipses, bold words, all capital words and more. We love sharing what we find. Mrs. D. has also read with all of us so will be working on individual books for us as well as a note to each of our families on what our targets are in reading. Stay tuned!

 Since we aren't only readers but also writers, we used what we learned from authors to make our writing even better. We practiced using bold, all capitals, elipses and more in our writing and had fun sharing it with our friends. Ask us about our individual target.

In math we did some work using double facts strategy and making ten strategy to help us solve other math problems. The easiest way to "see" this is using a ten frame but to explain it in words, if we know 5+5=10 quickly (because we know our doubles facts) we can know 5+6=11 quickly because it is one more than the double fact we know.  We also are taking the iReady test in math. Some of us will continue to work on it next week.

We had an assembly this week to learn all about bus safety. Our wonderful bus drivers came to educate us all on how to be safe and we also practiced how to evacuate a bus if there was ever an emergency.  They did a great job!

On Friday afternoon, we had our Fun Run! We ran and had a lot of fun and many of us got pretty messy (including Mrs. Doran) from our awesome PTA volunteers! Thank you to all who donated to our great school. It isn't too late to donate. Remember the top earner in Room 119 gets to eat their lunch with Mrs. Doran and a friend! Thank you to the 7 people who filled out our Mystery Reader survey. We had two people who preferred the 9:30 time and two who preferred the noon time and the rest who answered the survey did not have a preference. Our Fridays are very busy but it was the only day we could fit in both those times so... Please take a look at the Mystery Reader available dates on Mrs. Doran's blog (or by clicking HERE) and email Mrs. D. as soon as possible with a date you would like to come in and read to us AND if you will be reading to us at 9:30 or 12:00.
