Greetings from Room 119! We had a great snowy week! Just a reminder to throw an extra pair of socks in our backpacks. A lot of us came in from recess with wet socks (which wasn't very comfortable). They can stay in our backpacks just in case we may need them.
We started to learn how to write "How To" stories this week. We will continue to work on this next week. It can be difficult to remember all of the steps of something. Mrs. D. has been stressing that we include what we need in our How To stories and also that we use time order words (First, Next, Then...). The great thing about time order words is it helps us vary our sentences which makes our writing more interesting to the reader.
This week we did a lot with math facts. We will be working the remainder of the year on our math fact fluency. The more we practice these the easier math will become. Mrs. D. also met with most of us individually to really assess where we are in math. Notes on our math assessment came home in our Everyday Folder, but Mrs. D. chooses to dig deeper since sometimes we don't follow directions or she wants to know our thinking to help her teach us better.
Thank you to the families of Natasha, Becky and Luke for sending in extra page protectors! We added a lot of new pieces to our portfolios and we've had a lot of people losing teeth this year so Mrs. D. really appreciates your help in purchasing them!
We had a surprise Mystery Reader on Friday and we were really confused when Mrs. Doran read the last clue. We knew it was someone's dad but when Mrs. Doran said the dad's daughter is 37 years old, we got really confused... it was MRS. DORAN'S DAD! He did a really good job because he's had a lot of practice reading to his grandkids. He read us a fly guy book and we really liked it. We also asked him some questions after which was fun. There are still some Mystery Reader slots open, click HERE to see if you can read on any of the available dates.
As always, this is just a quick glance at our week. Check out below or click HERE to see more!
