Week 10 in Review

We had fun taking advantage of our free PBIS recess!

Greetings from Room 119.  It was not a typical week for us, but there was a lot of learning.  On Thursday we learned about a resilient teacher who used to teach at WLC and he was the recipient of our Thoughtful Thursday project.  You can see it by clicking HERE.

On Monday, we went to the Outdoor Center.  We did a great job and the both the staff and our bus driver  commented on how well behaved we were!  We learned a lot and had four classes.  We learned about soil, camouflage, spiders and insects.  We wrote all about our learning when we got back to school.  To see what we did, you can click HERE.
We have been losing a lot of teeth in Room 119!  Even after this picture was taken, more people have lost teeth.  Because of this, we are having to wait a little longer for the tooth tote.  We have other friends with loose teeth too!
In math we continued to work on solving story problems (though these were more hard).  Not only are we solving problems but we are thinking about how we solve them and explaining it.  We learned that there are many ways to solve a problem.  Similarly, we have begun working on our math fluency.  There are many ways to solve addition problems but we want those problems to eventually become easier.  This will happen the more we practice.  Stay tuned...
Every morning, we edit a message from Mrs. Doran based on Learning Targets we've had.  We do a great job but now we are trying to transfer that learning to our own writing.  Some common Learning Targets are; using capitals the right way, period placement, spelling word wall words correctly and rereading our writing to make sure it makes sense.  We also continue to build our writing fluency.
In Readers' Workshop we discussed story elements.  We looked closely at characters.  In addition, we watched the movie "Charlie & the Chocolate Factory."  We created a Venn Diagram comparing and contrasting the book and the movie.  We noticed that while the characters' personality traits were the same, the way we pictured them in the book and movie were different.  We have about 15 minutes left in the movie and will finish it on Monday.
We ended the week with a great story read by Leila's mom. Leila was so surprised and excited to see her mom.  We were a great audience!  Mrs. Doran has done her best to have everyone sign up for a Mystery Reader.  If you would like to sign up for a second Mystery Reader slot, just email her.  You can see remaining times on the blog under "Mystery Reader" at the top of the page.

As always, this is just a snapshot of our week and you can see more by clicking HERE.  Please remember that report cards will be available to view on Skyward at 4:00.  Mrs. D. will send out an email reminder.  Remember to celebrate all we are able to do and help us set goals for the next marking period.  Have a great week!
