Week 11 in Review

Greetings from 119!  Mrs. Doran enjoyed meeting with you last week.  Please remember should you ever have any questions or concerns you can contact her at any time.  Because we weren't in school on Thursday (due to conferences), we did a kindness project on Tuesday.  We made letters to send to veterans.  We invited all of LLE to join us, so added even more cards to our packages.  We sent out packages to three Veterans but made a video for ALL Veterans (including some loved by the children of Room 119).  You can click HERE to see (and share) the video.

With Thanksgiving around the corner, we've been reflecting on all the things we are thankful for and made some Thankful Turkeys.  If you didn't get a chance to see them at conferences, you can click HERE to see them.
In reading we are making connections with text to help us better understand what we are reading.  Mrs. D. also continues to read the biography of Squanto to us.  We find his story fascinating and can empathize with how some of the things he went through must have felt.
This week we added pages to our portfolios and looked back at how we wrote when we first came to Room 119.  We have really made a lot of progress and continue to work on our targets to get even better.
In math we are working on math fluency.  Until facts become automatic it is good to have a solid strategy to use.  We worked a little on using our fingers and taking the big number in our hand and counting up.  Mrs. D. will be making a video to make this more clear to you soon.
We don't often talk about the word study things we do in Room 119.  In addition to working with word families we are also doing sorts.  This sort of activity also has us practicing our fine motor skills since we are cutting and gluing.
We enjoyed celebrating Yatiri's 7th birthday this week.  He even brought us some very cool things made by his father who is a wonderful artist.  Happy Birthday, Yatiri!
We ended the week with a wonderful visit from Claire's mom (who also happens to be a math mom who comes in every Tuesday afternoon to help us in math workshop).  She read a great book and we were a wonderful audience!

As always, there is just a snapshot of what we did this week.  To see extra pictures from the week, you can click HERE.  Please note that Mrs. D. will be out on Monday for more iReady training but homework should come home.  Please let her know if you have any questions.
Also, be sure to take a look at the Mystery Reader slots.  There are a few still open.  They are "first come first served" so take a look at the Mystery Reader page (at the top of the blog) for more details!
Have a great week!
