Week 32 in Review

Greetings from Room 119.  We are currently in the midst of week 32, but thankfully Mrs. D. has found her camera and is finally able to share with you some of the highlights from the week.  She didn't take too many pictures because she was out sick and some of our work was top secret... (Happy Belated Mother's Day, Moms!).  We started the week with two of our fabulous first graders sharing their PBS (Positive Behavior Support) stories on the Monday morning news.

We also learned a lot about India this week.  Vasu wrote a report about his recent trip there and we learned a lot.  Nathan also took a trip to India and they both enjoyed sharing interesting experiences they had with all of us.  We all learned a lot (especially Mrs. Doran!).
Happy 7th Birthday Yana!!

During Reader's Workshop we continue to work on summaries.  One difficulty we are having is relating too many of the details.  We are working on finding the most important parts of the story.  Mrs. D.'s former first grader (turned junior in college), Miss Rosevear, came in to listen to us read.  Mrs. D. didn't get a good picture of her because she was busy reading with us and doing additional testing.
One highlight of the week was when some of Mrs. D's second graders came back to share their biography reports with us.  Mrs. D. added some pictures to the slide show below.  It was fun to get a sneak peek into some of the fun things that await us in second grade!
In science we explored more with liquids.  We discovered that we could pour the same amount of liquids into different containers and it would appear as if there were different amounts.  Containers with a small base (or area) appeared to have more liquid and containers with a wide base appeared to have less because the liquid spread out.
Mrs. D. was out sick on Thursday but we had another teacher come in.  Luke J's aunt came in to be our Mystery Reader.  Thankfully Mrs. D. left her camera so that our guest teacher could take some pictures.  It looks like we were all paying attention.

Though Donor's Choose told Mrs. D. that we wouldn't get the iPod Touches until the fall, they have already arrived!!! (TWO DAYS AFTER OUR PROJECT WAS FULLY FUNDED!)  Mrs. D. didn't let us use them this week though because she had not yet gotten the protective cases (as she writes this, we now have them and have had a lot of fun working on them).
We ended the week in our favorite way.  Chase's dad came in to read us a great story about a "Hot-Rod Hamster".  Chase was very surprised and we loved having his dad come in and read to us.  We were a great audience.
