Greetings from Room 119 and students who are 100 days smarter! We had a busy week with a lot of interruptions from our 'regular' learning but still got in our Readers', Writers' and Math Workshops in on most days (though Mrs. D. didn't get a lot of pictures of our "regular" learning).
WE DID IT! We were able to do 102 Acts of Kindness by 100s day! You can click HERE to see all of the kind things that we did. Hopefully we are all thinking about (or performing) our school act of kindness for the Pay It Forward project for PBS. PBS now has its own facebook page. Please "like" it and let other LLE families know about it! You can click HERE to get to the page.
Our kick-off assembly for Pay it Forward week (PIF) was on Monday and we were really excited that the video we made was shown to the entire school. We also have had visitors from New York and Texas visit our PBS blog which has been exciting. Our school really liked our videos and we felt really good about that!
Every day was exciting in room 119 because it seemed that every few hours a new beetle was emerging from its pupa. We were able to see the beetles start out as white and quickly change to black.
We had a GREAT Valentine's party on Thursday and Mrs. D. took a lot of video and pictures for those who could not be there. You can click HERE or check out the video below.
Mrs. Doran really integrated writing, reading and math into the activities we did this week (Valentine's Day and Hundred's Day). One of her favorite things we did was we pulled the name of a friend and wrote them a secret nice note on a heart. When we came back from lunch, Mrs. Doran had hung up our hearts with red ribbon from the ceiling. It was fun finding the heart we gave and the heart we got.
On Friday we had an extra hour of PE as we helped raise money for the American Heart Association through Jump Rope for Heart. We had a great time and got our own hearts healthy while helping others!
We also had a lot of fun activities for Hundred's Day. We wrote one hundred words, strung 100 Fruit Loops to make necklaces and learned how to make 100 number sentences to 100 (ask us how we tried to race Mrs. Doran once we learned her pattern). Of course we had a visit from "Zero the Hero" and our friend, Mrs. Turek, came by and took a picture of all of us together.
We ended the day with a special Mystery Reader. Maddie E's mom came in to read a "Skippyjon Jones" book to us. If you haven't yet volunteered to be a mystery ready please check out our Mystery Reader page and find a date that works for you or contact Mrs. D. as she would like all of us to have an opportunity for someone we love to be our Mystery Reader.
Don't forget to check out below for a lot of extra pictures from the week including our Hundred's Day fun and our awesome Valentine's Day party! Enjoy your week off!
