Week 32 in Review

Greetings from Room 119 and Mrs. Doran's first graders... even the tall first grader in the back turned college junior!  Ms. Carter is currently an education major at EMU and doing a wonderful job!  She is one first grader who never left Mrs. D's classroom and boy is she glad!  Thanks for coming in Ms. Carter!

We started the week by seeing a familiar face on our Monday broadcast!  Chase's PBS ticket was pulled the week before so he was able to go on the TV and share a story of the 5Rs.  He did a great job!  Mrs. D. took a picture since some of us felt the need to turn our head's since we are doing "No Screens Week" (that is dedication)!
We looked closely at liquids this week in science and learned that unlike solids, liquids will take the shape of their containers.  We also learned new words to describe the properties of liquids.  Ask us what viscous, transparent, transclucent & opaque mean.  We also noticed that water will always lay flat, no matter which way we turn the bottles.
We got back into our Writer's Notebooks and reviewed all of the things we learned this year, especially to REREAD our writing.  By doing this we are able to edit our writing.  We can fix our capitals, periods and make our writing better.
In Readers Workshop, we have been focusing on the author's intent.  We read two books by Max Lucado about the Wemmicks (ask us about them) and Mrs. D. also read a story to us and our buddies called, "Just Like You."  She borrowed it from Ms. Ulin.  It was about two characters that were bullied.  We also talked about the choices we make and that when we see others being bullied, we have a choice to be a bystander or to stand up to bullies.  We will choose to stand up to bullies!
Kirra's mom came to be a Mystery Reader on Thursday before lunch.  She was scheduled to be our reader last week, but when Kirra was out sick, she was unable to come in.  She read to us and brought us yummy fruit snacks!  Thank you!

Spring pictures were also this week which means that the end of school is around the corner.  This year has really flown by for Mrs. Doran.  We all took great pictures and also had a picture of all of us together.  They will be sent home as soon as they come in and you can choose to purchase prints if you would like.
On Friday, we had Natasha's mom come in and read to us.  She read us a WONDERFUL book called, "Princess of the Peas."  The book was written by Natasha's DAD!  Mrs. D. was really excited that the copy that Natasha's mom read to the class she gave to Mrs. Doran for our class to enjoy.  Mrs. D. brought the book home to share with her own four kiddos and they loved it.  Thank you so much for the beautiful book!

As always, this is just a small recap of all the things we did this week, to see extra pictures you can click HERE or look below (Mrs. D. used a song we told her we loved).  Also, please remember that the All-Pro Dad Meeting is on May 8th.  Mrs. D. will be sending more information about the upcoming field trip home next week.
