Greetings and a very Happy Mother's Day to all the Moms (Grandmas, Nanas & Aunties) of the first graders in Room 119! We hope that you had a wonderful day and enjoyed our "Top Secret" projects that we worked on this week to make you smile.
As you know, we had an unexpected day off on Wednesday (the Doran kids actually came in to work in Room 119). With the short week, we really had to work hard on our Mother's Day gifts. They turned out great and we hope that you loved them!
Mrs. D. will be finishing up her reading groups next week. She has a lot of testing to do before the end of the year and needs to get started. Please remember to have us read each night to work on fluency.
We are growing not only in our reading fluency, but also in our math. Some of us are practicing those facts at home and it really shows! We are in our last math unit which has a lot of review of things we worked on this year.
In science, we explored solids and how they can come in different sizes. We measured solids and learned that while we may have measured out the same amount of a solid, when putting it into different containers it looked like we had more or less of the solid. Containers with a small bottom seemed to have more of the solid while those with a larger bottom seemed to have less because the solid was spread out.
We had two Mystery Readers on Friday. We were convinced from the clues that our first Mystery Reader was going to be Mr. Olack (our PE teacher). After that last clue though, Robbie knew for certain it was his uncle (visiting from out of town) who was our Mystery Reader. He was so surprised!
We ended the day with another Mystery Reader, Luke's mom! It was fitting that she come this week as she is one of our four amazing math moms! We all knew who our Mystery Reader was when it came to that last clue. We loved listening to the books our Readers read to us!
As always, this is just a snapshot of what we've done. You can click HERE or check out below to see even more. Also, please remember that our Field Trip is TUESDAY! Mrs. D. will send home a reminder on Monday (and post it here in case some of us don't get the note home).
