Week 35 in Review!

Greetings from Room 119!  We had a wonderful week and want to thank ALL of you who have taken a moment volunteering in Room 119, from our Room Moms, our Math Moms, our Chaperones, and our Mystery Readers to those who have volunteered to help us even at home (that's all of you!).  Thanks for making our school year so successful!  We're so thankful for you!

Even though our school days together are winding down, we still have a lot of work to get through.  Still, we took 15 minutes on Monday to make Get Well/ Birthday Wishes to someone who is fighting cancer and turning 21.  We love to fill buckets and Mrs. Doran heard from her friend and knows John will just love these cards.  To see more of what we did, click HERE.
Mrs. Doran is always writing PBS tickets for us and sometimes our tickets get pulled and we get to be on the news.  Jacob did a great job sharing his PBS story.  Although there won't be any more TV broadcasts, we will continue to hear about the awesome PBS stories over the PA.
Happy Un-Birthday Chase!
We had fun celebrating some "Un"Birthdays this week.  If your child has a birthday over the summer months and you'd like us to celebrate in school, please contact Mrs. D. to set something up.
Happy Un-Birthday Srushti!
We were sad to have to say goodbye to our friend, Srushti.  She left for India this week and won't be returning until the fall.  We were glad to be able to celebrate her "Un"Birthday before she left.
Mrs. Doran doesn't often write about the amazing books she has read us this year.  She just finished reading "Matilda" by Roald Dahl and we loved it!  We have also loved the warm weather because we've been able to go outside and listen to her read.  We love getting the fresh air!
Mrs. D. will probably need the remainder of the year to finish up our reading testing.  When she has looked our reading levels when we began first grade and compared them to where we are now, she had been so impressed!  Remember to keep reading with us at home.  It's important we don't slack off because she can tell... (we're amazed at her super-powers that way).
In science this week we explored what happens when we mix solids and liquids (water) together.  We were surprised at what happened.  We are going to keep the solids (with water) out so that the remaining water can evaporate.  We are curious to see what will happen when we return to school on Tuesday.
We also were very excited to see that all of five chrysalises survived Mrs. D. moving them from their food cup to their new habitat.  Now we just have to wait and see what happens. Mrs. D. put flowers, plants and sugar water in their habitat.  We hope they will like it when they emerge.
We continue to work on perhaps the most important thing that writers do... REREAD AND FIX!  This is a hard thing for young writers to do but we are beginning to do it on our own.  We are also getting better at where to put periods.  Remind us when we're writing to reread what we have written to make sure it makes sense.  Even Mrs. D. still has to reread her writing (especially on this blog).
We finished our math journals this week and took our end of the year assessment.  Mrs. D. will be working on those of us who are struggling in some areas and we will also continue to work on our math fluency each morning.  Those who are practicing are REALLY moving (again, Mrs. D. is using her super-powers but also getting confirmation from us).
We had a special Mystery Reader this week (though she came in the beginning of the week rather than the end).  Chase's mom came in to read to us and shared a birthday story with us on the day we celebrated Chase's Un-Birthday.

As always, there is more to see by clicking HERE or checking out the video below.  Mrs. D. also realized that she didn't take any pictures of us working on Social Studies.  We learned the difference between Goods and Services and what "Trade" means.  We'll be expanding on these concepts next week.

Have a wonderful weekend and don't forget that Spirit Week begins Tuesday!
A reminder post will be sent out on Monday.
Tuesday: Twin Day
Wednesday: Wacky Day (dress in crazy mis-matched clothes & wacky hair)
Thursday: Throw-Back Thursday (Dress like you're going to a Disco)
Friday: Field Day!
You can wear a hat this day.  Also, please note that we will not be getting Field Day shirts this year.  Please wear a blue shirt to help Mrs. Doran keep track of all of us on that day.  More information to come!
