Week 34 in Review

Greetings from Room 119! We had a great week including an awesome Field Trip where we learned about Animals of the Land, Birds of Prey, Native Americans and African Traditions. Our school's First Graders were GREAT and I was so proud of how they behaved and conducted themselves!  To see a video with pictures of our trip you can click HERE or look below.

Congratulations to those who turned off their screens for a week!  They received a special award and a free recess and ice-cream from the PTA.  Next Wednesday, they will be able to eat in Room 119 with Mrs. D.
In math we have been reviewing concepts like time and money.  It's hard to believe, but we have one more lesson and then will take our end of the year assessment.  After that assessment is given, Mrs. Doran will see in what areas we still need to grow.  We've enjoyed becoming "masters" at problems and teaching others.  Teaching someone else something is a great way to strengthen your own learning.
We added another portfolio piece this week.  We are working hard at remembering all of the things Mrs. D. taught us this year.  The most difficult thing is to remember to go back (on our own) to edit our writing.
In science, we problem solved how to separate different sized solids.  We had a lot of fun and did a great job working together.  Next week we will look at mixtures of solids AND liquids (water) to see what will happen.  We also have five butterfly chrysalises in our classroom and can't wait to see our butterflies emerge!
We have been working hard on reading and Mrs. D. is going to begin assessments next week. Please remember to read with us everyday so that we're at our best.  One of our favorite fifth graders (Jenna, who helps Mrs. D. with Friday Folders), came in and read to us.  She did an awesome job!
We were "Bucket Fillers" on Friday (we won't tell you all the details just yet).  We will tell you that we were great writers and also put some of our 'artistic' talents to use.
We ended our day on Friday with a Mystery Reader (which wasn't really a Mystery because Srushti knew it was her family that was coming in).  Srushti's mom read a wonderful story to us with a great message.  Some of us missed the story because we were still celebrating "No Screens" week with the PTA.  They also brought pencils to celebrate Srushti's upcoming birthday!  THANK YOU!

As always, this is a snapshot.  For more pictures from the week, click HERE.
Please also make sure to note that the district has had to add one more day to our school year.  Please make sure your child is in attendance as our funding depends on it.  Mrs. D. also put contacts for those in Lansing making funding cuts should you choose to write them.  It's quick and easy and located on the upper right corner of the blog.
