Snowy Greetings from Room 119! We were so happy that the snowflakes we saw weren't only those hanging from our ceiling. We got a light dusting, just in time for winter break. Please remember to mark all our gear as it gets jumbled easily each day. Ask us to sing the song Mrs. D. taught us in hopes to always have our hat and gloves!
In math Mrs. D. taught us that the = sign can be thought of as a balance. Whatever is on one side of the sign, needs to be the same as the other side in order for it to be true. This way of learning algebra can be tricky for first graders but we worked through it together and did a really good job. We also were able to review the words, "true and false."
We continued to work on letter writing this week and Mrs. D. let us free-write in our notebooks a lot this week as we worked on our TOP SECRET project (which is also the reason Mrs. D. doesn't have a lot of pictures from this week). We also read a lot independently, but Mrs. D. didn't introduce anything new in our mini-lessons. She did give us a present on Friday. We got our very own stationery, a new pencil and some stickers. It was also a gift to her... since we love writing so much, our room was very quiet with nothing but the sound of scratching pencils and we wrote some letters.
We were also excited to take a math test this week. We are getting much more independent in our math work and we LOVED getting out our 'offices' to work.
The highlight of Mrs. D's week was watching us open the gift of reading that you gave to each of us. We took turns opening our special books and then Mrs. D. would read what you wrote us and we would beam with pride. Thank you for loving us the way you do. You are the first and our most important teachers.
Mrs. D. was also so very touched by all the kind words and gifts this week! She feels honored to be able to spend her days with us.
Of course there were more pictures. Mrs. D. made a video of the extra pictures from the week, one for our maps and another for our party. She will post our TOP SECRET projects after Christmas.
Have a wonderful break!
